The Rug Center is among the most well-established rug companies of the Bay Area, now serving more than 49,000 customers - including dealers and retail buyers. It was established in the year of 1994 in Palo Alto, California. Since then, it has been expanding rapidly to compete with the outer world; to offer the lowest prices possible for the highest quality rugs from around the globe to its consumers.

Javeed Chaudhry (The Founder)

Javeed was born in Pakistan. His father was not only a rug dealer, he was also a rug weaver and had rug weaving looms all over the eastern part of Punjab (the main rug weaving state in Pakistan).

He grew up watching and observing the basic art of rug weaving and started to develope a passion for this trade. At a very young age, Javeed started to go with his father to remote areas of Punjab, where his father had looms. His quest for oriental rugs was so intense, that he decided to continue his father's legacy. When he turned twenty, he traveled to Europe and then to the United States to see how this trade can benefit families in their homes - it is truly a work of art. He desired to continue to create beauty in the homes of people with his knowledge and experience.

He started his business in Atlanta in 1980, but he realized that the Atlanta market was not vast enough at that time. He later moved to New York City to fulfil his dream and started to sell rugs to retail stores across the country. Because of his passion for this trade, he voyaged to other countries such as Afghanistan, China, India, Iran (Persia), Nepal, Turkey, and some tribal areas of Pakistan. In those places, he had an opportunity to discover so much more about oriental rugs, and began importing rugs from almost all of the rug-making countries. This surely proved to be a great success.

Due to certain reasons, he decided to move from New York City to Palo Alto, California in 1994. There, he started a retail store and continued his wholesale business. His idea was to pass on the benefits of his expertise. Also, to provide the best possible products at the most moderate prices.

Javeed always believed, and still does, that there is room for improvement in the area of customer service. His plans for the future includes an enormous high-tech rug gallery that promises to be very time-efficient for the customers who wish to choose a precise rug.
